Preventative Medicine

Let’s start the discussion today about how to keep you healthy!

Here are the routine cancer screening recommendations in Ontario. Please schedule an in person appointment for a periodic health exam-which is a targeted health assessment where we will address which screening tests are recommended and we will advise you regarding your vaccine status and needs.

For breast, colon and cervical cancer screening, reminder letters are usually sent via Canada Post.

If you believe you are overdue for a Breast screening examination please contact us. The screening letters are sent to women ages 40-74 every 2 years for women at average risk for Breast Cancer. If you are aged 30-69 and are at high risk for getting breast cancer, based on personal or family history, please discuss this concern with your doctor. You may be eligible for the High Risk OBSP (Ontario Breast Screening Program). For breast screening you can also contact an Ontario Breast Screening Program site directly at 1-800-668-9304 to schedule a time to be tested. For a complete list of sites, click here. If you are due or overdue for your cervical screening (HPV/Pap) you should contact us to schedule an appointment.. Currently, screening was recommended every 3 years for women who had been sexually active. The current guideline is to start at age 25, and now includes HPV screening which will allow us to screen only every 5 years. If you are 3 years or more since your last pap you should screen now. Screening should continue until age 70 under specific guidelines. Speak to your doctor if you are between 21-25 years of age. Cancer Care Ontario Screening for Cervical Cancer

The Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) kits are mailed to you through ColonCancerCheck. Please contact the office if you are due for this test and we will arrange to have one mailed to you. People aged 50-74 with no family history of colon cancer in a first degree relative should consider doing this test every 2 years. If you have a family history of colon cancer, speak to your doctor about what screening tests are best for you. Cancer Care Ontario Screening for Colorectal Cancer
